All Nepalese Crave for Momo: Recipe of Nepalese Momo

Travelers after you have visited Nepal you must definitely have tasted local Nepalese momo. Those slurry juicy dumplings assorted with hot spicy sauce might still make you drool for some more Right! So keeping your love for MOMO in mind we bring you a simple recipe of dumpling at home. So foodies get all your ingredients ready based on your love for vegetarian momo or non vegetarian momo (chicken).

Ingredients you must shop to prepare dumpling: (Serve 3-4)

  • Coriander Leaves
  • Black pepper
  • Ginger (few grated) and Garlic ( one clove smashed)
  • Spring onion   finely chopped 2 small onions.
  • 1 ½ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cabbage finely grated (for vegetarian)
  • 250 minced chicken (for non-vegetarian)
  • 1 grated carrot (for vegetarian)
  • 1 capsicum (for vegetarian)
  • Grated Cottage Cheese 250 gm
  • Coriander powder 1 table spoon
  • Oil
  • Salt

What to do after collecting all the ingredients:

Step 1: In a large bowl mix flour, oil, salt and sauté it properly. Add water to make proper dough and keep it aside.

Step 2:  Heat a pan by adding oil. Add ginger, garlic and onion till it gets golden brown. Put in cabbage, capsicum, cottage cheese ( for vegetarian) while for non-vegetarian replace the vegetables with chicken.

Step 3: Sauté the combination for 5 minutes in a medium flame and add salt as per your taste, coriander powder, fresh coriander in the mixture to enhance the taste. Please taste the mixture once in case you want to add some additional seasoning like soya sauce or oregano. Allow the mixture to cool before stuffing it in dough.

Step 4: Now comes the most interesting part i.e giving shape to the dumplings. Divide the mixed dough into six or seven balls as per your dough size. Roll it into small size just like in the form of chappatis, roti keeping the center thick and edges thin.

Step 5:  It’s the time for stuffing now. In the rolled dough place the stuffing portion in center and fold it in the half moon shape. To seal the edges use oil in your hand. To give an attractive look make pleats if you don’t know how to make one you can give a ball shape to your MoMo.

Step 6: For the cooking purpose you can use idli steamer or rice cooker to steam. For approximately 10 minutes steam your momo till the outer cover becomes transparent or till the momos stops being sticky. You can serve the Mo:Mo with hot chilli sauce or coriander sauce.
